一、系统与进化植物学Phylogeny and Biogeography of Smilacaceae based on nuclearand chloroplast DNA sequencesChengxin Fu Guanchun Chen Kenneth M.Cameron2(1 LaboratoryofSystematic&EvolutionaryBotanyandBiodiversity,CollegeofLifeSciences,ZhejiangUniversity,Hangzhou 310058,China2 Department ofBotany,University ofWisconsin,Madison Madison,WI 53706-1381,U S A)Smilacaceae are a cosmopolitan family of liliales characterized by climbing habit,reticulateleaf venation,paired petiolar tendrils,and unisexual flowers Deviations from this generalized morphology have lead to the division of Smilacaceae into at least seven different genera and five sections within the large genus Smilax.In particular,taxa with connate tepals(Heterosmilax),more than six tamens(Pleiosmilax,Oligosmilax),or herbaceous habit(Nemexia)have beenvariously classified In this paper,using DNA sequences of 101 taxa from the nuclear rDNA ITSgene region cpDNA matK and rpll6,parsimony and Mrbayes analyses provide moderateresolution.The result shows that phylogenetic relationships of Rhipogonum and Lapageria areclosely related to Smilax,but supports they as separate families Within Smilax the Koyama’ssections are not monophyletic except for Nemexia Three major lineages are evident.The first isthe Old world clade that can be subdivided into two main clades,one including the most species ofsect.China,the most of sect.Macranthae,and some species of sect.Coilanthus,the other cladeincluding the most species of Heterosmilax,the herbaceous Smilax species with a East Asia andNorth American distribution and most species of sect.Coilanthus.In the monophyletic herbaceousclade.the S riparia and S.herbacea complex represents a eastward dispersal from Asia to NorthAmerica.Another New World clade contains woody North America species,South Americaspecies,and the Asian S. sieboldii and American S.hispida complex,which there is evidence ofeastward dispersal from North America to Asia.The third lineage is represented byera.which is the sole member of Smilax section Smilax,widely distributed in North Africa,SouthEurope and South Asia,and is sister to the entire genus in ITS consensus tree,showing a ancestralcharacter.The African S kraussiana is sister to the Australia S Australia.which are both of a verysimilar morphology.The estimated divergence time of Smilacaceae is 21 lmy based on the Bayesian datingmethod,but the ancestor of Smilacaceae have existed around 52my.The results,combined withfossil evidence,suggested that Smialcaceae may be originated in South America and migrated toNorth America finally across the north atlantic land bridge to Europe during the early Eocene,butduring the middle Miocene the north atlantic land bridge was broken.
